Is CaDA better than LEGO? The differences, pros and cons at a glance

Is CaDA beter dan LEGO? De verschillen, voor- en nadelen op een rij

When you think of building blocks, you almost automatically think of LEGO. However, the interlocking brick market has not stood still in recent years. Especially for fans of detailed scale models and vehicles, the brand CaDA Bricks has grown into a serious player.

But is CaDA actually better than LEGO, or does it fulfill a completely different need? We compare the two brands in terms of build quality, range, licenses, and price.

1. Quality and fit of the bricks

One of the most important questions when it comes to alternative interlocking brick brands is the quality of the bricks.

  • LEGO: Has been known for decades for the constant and high precision of its clutch power. The bricks fit together seamlessly and the plastic has a high-quality finish.

  • CaDA: The quality of CaDA bricks has risen sharply in recent years. Within the more expensive CaDA Master Series, the building blocks are barely inferior to LEGO in terms of clutch power. Building feels familiar and sturdy, with physical instruction booklets and a clear bag structure.

2. Range and official brand licenses

The biggest difference between the two brands lies in their product range:

  • LEGO: Has a wide range of themes (from Star Wars and Harry Potter to LEGO Technic and Architecture). For vehicles, LEGO mainly focuses on large supercars (such as Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini).

  • CaDA: Focuses specifically on car enthusiasts and technical builders. CaDA works with official licenses from well-known car brands and releases vehicles that LEGO does not (yet) offer. Examples include the Audi RS6 Avant, the Mercedes-AMG GT3, or exclusive hypercars.

3. Exclusive top designers (CaDA Master Series)

A unique strong point of CaDA is that for their top models, they collaborate with well-known, independent MOC designers (My Own Creation).

For example, the popular 1:8 Audi RS6 Avant (set number C61515W) was designed by Dutch designer Thijs de Boer (known for the V12 Hypercar, among others). Thanks to these collaborations, CaDA sets often contain more complex and realistic technical functions than regular sets:

  • Working Quattro all-wheel drive and adjustable wheel suspension.

  • Advanced sequential gearboxes.

  • Collaborations with tire brands (such as Continental or Michelin) with 1-to-1 scale prints on the tires.

4. Price-quality ratio

If we look at the price per brick and the size of the sets, CaDA often offers more build for your money:

  • Number of parts: For a price at which you would buy a medium-sized Technic set from LEGO, CaDA Master sets offer over 4,000 to 4,500 parts, including full-fledged functions and detailed interiors.

  • Complexity: CaDA sets are strongly aimed at the 14+ and 18+ builder looking for a challenge in intricate gear mechanisms and body shapes.

Comparison Overview

Feature LEGO CaDA Bricks
Target Audience Broad target audience (children and adults) Mainly 14+ and adult motorsport fans
Vehicle Focus Supercars, Formula 1, and famous classics Specific car models (e.g., Audi RS6, AMG GT3)
Details & Engineering Good balance between sturdiness and playability Highly detailed, complex mechanical functions
Tires & Licenses Own brand tires, well-known car licenses Official licenses, original brand tires (Continental/Michelin)
Price per brick Higher (due to brand name and licenses) More favorable (many parts for the price)

Conclusion: Is CaDA better?

Whether CaDA is "better" than LEGO depends on what you are looking for in a building set:

  • Choose LEGO if you like the classic brand experience, are looking for a wide variety of themes, or want sets primarily designed for a smooth and universal building process.

  • Choose CaDA if you are a passionate car enthusiast looking for specific models (such as a 1:8 Audi RS6), enjoy challenging engineering, and want maximum detail for your budget.

For many builders, CaDA is not a replacement for LEGO, but a high-quality and welcome addition to their collection.
