The second free practice for the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix is over, and it was home favorite Oscar Piastri who set the fastest time at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne.
The McLaren driver completed a lap in 1:19.729, narrowly beating the Mercedes drivers. Kimi Antonelli finished in second place, while George Russell recorded the third-fastest time.
Lewis Hamilton drove his Ferrari to the fourth-fastest time, just ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc, who completed the top five.
Max Verstappen finished the session in sixth place, while reigning world champion Lando Norris recorded the seventh-fastest time.
With Piastri topping the timesheets, the crowd in Melbourne already had something to cheer about. The first day of the Formula 1 weekend shows that McLaren and Mercedes are competitive, while Ferrari and Red Bull are still searching for the perfect setup heading into qualifying.
Later this weekend will follow the third free practice, qualifying, and of course, the race on Sunday.
