The Formula 1 timetable for the 2026 Monza GP: 'Temple of Speed'

Het Formule 1-tijdschema van de GP van Monza 2026: 'Temple of Speed'

After the spectacle in the Dutch dunes, the Formula 1 circus immediately moves on to the royal park of Monza for the Italian Grand Prix. The 'Temple of Speed' is known for its extremely long straights, tight chicanes and top speeds of over 350 km/h.

With thin rear wings and minimal downforce, drivers will be looking for the fine balance between acceleration and stability under braking this weekend. To ensure you don't miss a single session on the historic Italian track, you'll find the full schedule for the upcoming race weekend below.

Italian Grand Prix 2026 Schedule

Monza hosts the traditional race weekend format. Friday is dedicated to the first adjustments during the free practice sessions, Saturday sees the decisive battle for pole position, and the main race is scheduled for Sunday.

Day Session Time
Friday, September 4th First Free Practice (FP1) 13:30 - 14:30
Second Free Practice (FP2) 16:00 - 17:00
Saturday, September 5th Third Free Practice (FP3) 12:30 - 13:30
Qualifying 16:00 - 17:00
Sunday, September 6th Race (53 laps) 15:00 - 17:00

Overtaking and Slipstreaming in Italy

Qualifying on Saturday afternoon at Monza consistently offers a tactical game. Because air resistance is crucial on the long straights, drivers try to drive in each other's 'tow' to benefit from the slipstream. Timing the run in Q3 is therefore of great importance on this track.

On Sunday, the cars will complete 53 laps on the 5.793-kilometer circuit. The best overtaking opportunity is at the end of the main straight, where the cars brake for the notorious first chicane (Variante del Rettifilo).
