The 68th edition of the Daytona 500 this weekend guaranteed a spectacle, and not just because of the race itself. During the second stage of the race, a huge crash occurred involving approximately twenty cars. This pile-up changed the course of the race and caused chaos on the track.
The crash was caused when Justin Allgaier, who was leading at the time, attempted a blocking maneuver. In doing so, he hit Denny Hamlin, and that collision suddenly went completely wrong. The front-stretch contact caused multiple drivers to collide and the field to scatter. Among those involved were well-known names such as Kyle Larson, Alex Bowman, and Shane van Gisbergen — all drivers who normally compete at the front of the field.

It is well-known that such accidents occur in superspeedway races like Daytona, but a crash of this magnitude is always impressive to witness. Superspeedways create so-called "pack racing," where cars drive close together to make optimal use of the airflow. This leads to exciting battles, but also little room for error. A misplaced bumper can very easily cause a chain reaction.
Despite the drama in the second stage of the race, the tension on the track remained. Ultimately, it was Tyler Reddick who managed to win the race, by overtaking in the final meters while crash chaos erupted behind him again. For Reddick and his team, 23XI Racing, it was a special moment: his first Daytona 500 victory and simultaneously the first for the team co-led by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin.
For fans, this intensity is unfortunately part of Daytona. It's a race often full of action, with multiple major crashes and surprising twists. It makes the Daytona 500 one of the most talked-about races of the year, both on and off the track.
