As a car enthusiast, you know there's something special happening on the streets of Monte Carlo this weekend. McLaren is celebrating a huge milestone there: their one-thousandth Grand Prix. To celebrate this, LEGO has released two brand new F1 helmets within the new LEGO Editions series. These are the iconic headgear of reigning world champion Lando Norris and his teammate Oscar Piastri. What makes this release extra cool is that both drivers will be wearing helmets with this exact same LEGO design during the real race in Monaco this weekend.
The helmets were designed in close collaboration with the drivers themselves, and that's immediately evident in the details. While previous LEGO helmets often followed a driver's standard colors entirely, these anniversary versions have been given a unique split design. One half of the helmet shows the recognizable papaya color of McLaren's special one-thousandth race livery. The other half is reserved for the drivers' personal style.
Oscar Piastri: Papaya and Australian blue
Oscar Piastri's helmet bears set number 43017 and consists of exactly 793 bricks. In this model, the McLaren orange beautifully flows into the blue accents that are characteristic of the young Australian's driving style and origin. LEGO has paid great attention to the aerodynamic shapes, which is quite a challenge with square bricks. The visor is in a deep orange hue, and subtle sponsor logos and Piastri's own logo are applied all around.
The helmet comes with a black display stand with a printed nameplate including his signature and race number 81. And as a nice extra, there's an exclusive minifigure of Piastri himself. No boring racing suit, but a casual outfit consisting of a T-shirt, shorts, and indeed: flip-flops. The model is 18 centimeters high, making it a perfect size for a display cabinet or your desk.
Lando Norris: Fluorescent yellow and number one
For fans of Lando Norris, there is set 43023, also built from 793 bricks. Here, the papaya color is combined with the bright, fluorescent yellow that we have been accustomed to from Norris for years. The iconic glitch pattern is cleverly incorporated into the bricks. Since Norris won the world title last season, this helmet no longer features his familiar number 4, but the coveted race number 1.
This set also features a display stand with signature, the recognizable LN logo, and a unique minifigure in a black casual outfit. Both sets have been available since June 3rd for a recommended retail price of 89.99 euros each.
